Including children with disabilities is essential in any setting to uphold the rights of children and adhere to equalities law and good practice. But doing so often needs just a bit of support to develop policies, consider approaches and to gain confidence to ensure positive experiences for all children and young people. It is not hard and is very rewarding for staff to gain knowledge and understanding that really makes a difference.
We provide training for staff who want to look at how their service can become more inclusive and ensure that a child is not just present, but really getting the best out of their involvement. It may be including children with autism or complex needs in a club or improving understanding of how a child who can’t express their feelings in words can benefit from activities and enjoy their involvement whatever the setting. Most importantly it is about the child being able to contribute and make friends rather than just ‘being there’.
We can provide training and support to equip staff with the knowledge and skills to enable disabled children to be included, taking into account a range of complex needs.
Our programme is interactive, with group exercises, discussions and case studies, as well as providing useful and relevant information. Participants will take away ideas about how to implement change and strategies to deal with specific issues. Courses can be designed to address the particular needs of participants and address the issues currently being faced by your organisation.
